Gov’t to establish fertilizer plant in Western Region

The new plant is being worked out with the Indian government and will use gas from the nation’s hydrocarbon fields.

“…Again in the Western Region where I just came from, we are working with our partners in India to establish a  fertilizer manufacturing plant which will use gas from our hydrocarbon fields to produce fertilizer for Ghanaian farmers,” president Mahama said in a speech during the inauguration of the refurbished Tamale Airport Friday.

President Mahama further noted the initiative with provide readily available fertilizer to farmers across the country especially those in the Savannah zone.

He said the development of the Sambli irrigation dam in the Upper East Region has the potential to irrigate 1,250 hectares of land for the cultivation of onion, pepper, rice and other crops.

“We have increased agriculture mechanization centers from 57 in 2009 to 89 as at 2014. And these interventions have ensured an increased area of crop land,” He said.
