You can get thick, long and strong lashes naturally and you don’t need to spend a fortune on products to do it. All you need to do is to add a few extra steps into your daily beauty routine and you could soon be waving goodbye to false lashes for good.

Here are ten straight forward beauty tips for you to follow that will strengthen and protect your eyelashes.

1. Always remove all your eye makeup at night

It’s very important to remove all traces of eye makeup every night before you go to bed. If you leave makeup on, it can get caught on your bedclothes and pull lashes out.

It can also cause eye infections too. When you do remove your makeup, do it gently and avoid tugging the lashes or you will break them.

2. Use eyelash curlers less often

You shouldn’t really be using eyelash curlers every day, because that can weaken the lashes and make them more prone to damage.

Ideally, you should give your lashes a complete break from eye makeup sometimes too, and give them a chance to grow naturally. Mascara makes your lashes more brittle and it is easier to break lashes when you are wearing mascara.

3. Brush your lashes twice a day

Get into the habit of brushing your lashes regularly, just as you do your hair. Brushing spreads your natural oils over the full length of the lashes and it also helps to stimulate blood flow to the follicles of the hairs.

You can use an eyelash brush for this, or a clean mascara wand will do the job just as well.

4. Avoid using false eyelashes

False eyelashes can look great and they do get around the problem if your own lashes are a bit sparse, but using false lashes will damage your natural ones.

Every time you use them, you run the risk of damaging your own lashes, or pulling some out, so use them only sparingly, and your own lashes will grow thick and strong faster.

5. Use castor oil to stimulate growth

If you apply castor oil to your lashes at night and then wash it off in the morning, it will help to stimulate the growth of the lashes.

It’s amazing that such an inexpensive product can be so effective, but it is. It’s actually a good alternative to Vitamin E, which would also help to make your lashes grow faster.

6. Massage your eyelids

Wash your hands thoroughly first and then gently massage your eyelids with your fingers. Massaging your eyelids will improve the flow of blood to your eyelashes, and that will help the lashes grow thick and strong.

7. Condition with olive oil

Your lashes would benefit from conditioning, just as the hair on your head does, and one of the best things for this is olive oil. Olive oil is pure and natural, so it’s perfectly safe to use around your eyes. Dab some olive oil onto your lashes with a cotton wool ball and leave it in for about 10-15 minutes. It will nourish and moisturise your lashes and encourage growth.

8. Clean your lashes with green tea

Green tea contains flavonoids, which can have an amazing positive effect on hair growth. If you dip a cotton wool ball in green tea and use this to clean your lashes, it will help to keep the follicles clean and free of the clogging that can slow the growth of lashes. The flavonoids in green tea will also help to nourish the lashes and make them grow faster.

9. Nourish lashes with Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is another natural product you can use to stimulate the growth of eyelashes. Aloe vera contains a number of nutrients and vitamins that are ideal for promoting the growth of healthy lashes.

Apply some aloe vera gel to your lashes with a clean mascara wand, and leave it on overnight. It will both nourish and moisturise your eyelashes while you sleep.

10. Eat a healthy diet

What you eat and drink can also make a big difference to the health of your eyelashes. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

As well as eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, foods that are high in protein, like eggs and yoghurt are good for hair growth as are foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as nuts and fresh salmon.
