Most African songs narrate the culture of a particular region or country, most time it goes as far as narrating our day to day activities which have an impacts on our lives.

Africa is a great and beautiful continent made up of people of different region with different culture and tradition.

Hence,African songs have different styles and rhythm depending on the region. Most African Songs narrate the activities/culture of a particular region or country, most time it goes as far as narrating our day to day activities which have an impacts on our lives.

Yvonne Chaka Chakais one of the pioneers of African music in South Africa. She has a lot of songs to her credit. The song titled “Umqombothi (African Beer) has been a phenomenal hit. The song is from the album Yvonne Chaka Chaka, which was released in 2007.

Her song “Wombo Lombo”  has been a hit since it got released in 1996. This song has once been adopted by FIFA and played during competitions. It is one of the few African songs that represent the true nature and style of African music.

The Premier Gaousong stole the hearts of most Ghanaians and sold millions of copies not just in Africa but around the world. It is from the album “1er Gaou”, which was released in 2002. A lot of African can really relate and identify with the song.

In 1998, Awilo Longomba, a popular Congolese musician, released the song “Coupe Bibamba,” which propelled him to the top of the African music industry. It is one of the most-played lingala songs in Africa. Even today, if this song doesn’t play, it is not a party.

“Zamina mina” was a hit song done by a popular Cameroonian dance group called “Golden Sounds.” The song has since been remixed by numerous international artists, including the American/Spanish singer Shakirawhich she performed during the opening of 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It was released in 1986.

Released in the late-’90s, this song celebrates love, loyalty and interdependence between partners. The song was on the album Enenoralen Gena, meaning “we shall live,” the song also advises people to practice safe sex and to protect themselves from HIV.
