How the London Bridge and Borough Market terror attack victims died

The preliminary cause of death was given at a Southwark Coroner’s Court hearing.

Six of the eight victims of the London Bridge and Borough Market terror attacks died of stab wounds, a coroner has confirmed.

During a hearing at Southwark Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, senior coroner Andrew Harris opened an inquest into the deaths of the people who lost their lives on Saturday, June 3.

The Metropolitan Police Service presented evidence on the deaths of five individuals. It was "accepted" by the coroner and a preliminary cause of death was given.

The hearing for the remaining three victims took place on Wednesday. During this, it was confirmed that one died after drowning in the River Thames.

A further 48 people were injured when Islamist extremists Khuram Butt, Rachid Redouane, and Youssef Zaghba drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and then launched a stabbing spree in Borough Market. The injured all survived.

Christine Archibald

Canadian Christine Archibald was killed by "multiple" crush wounds after being struck by the van on London Bridge.

It has been reported that the 30-year-old social worker died in the arms of her fiance, Tyler Ferguson.

Sebastien Belanger

The 36-year-old French national died of a stab wound to the chest when Butt, Redouane, and Zaghba went on a rampage through Borough Market.

The chef, who has worked in bars and restaurants across London, was reportedly in Borough Market watching the Champions League final in the Barrow Boy and Banker pub.

Kirsty Louise Boden

The 28-year-old Australian was stabbed outside Southwark Cathedral. She died of an "incised wound" to the chest.

Boden's family said she had "ran towards danger, in an effort to help people on the bridge" when she lost her life.

James McMullan

The 32-year-old suffered a stab wound to the chest near Borough Market. His body was found slumped outside the post office in Borough High Street. McMullan's father identified his body.

He was drinking in the Barrowboy and Banker pub on the night of the attack. "Words will never be able to match his essence," his family said when his death was announced.

Ignacio Miralles De Imperial

The 39-year-old HSBC security and crime analyst was from Spain. He was one of the first to be attacked and died of a stab wound to the back on London Bridge.

The banking executive reportedly tackled the Islamist extremists soon after they abandoned their van. He is said to have attacked them with his skateboard.

Alexandre Pigeard

Alexandre Pigeard, 26, died of stab wounds to neck and chest.

The French national was knifed in the Boro Bistro, where he worked as a waiter. He was found close to Southwark Cathedral, on Montague Close.

Xavier Thomas

The 45-year-old Frenchman's body was recovered from the river near Limehouse in east London. The coroner accepted that he died of "immersion."

He was visiting London for the weekend with his girlfriend, Christine Delcros, who was struck and seriously injured in the attack.

Sara Zelenak

The 21-year-old Australian nanny died of a stab wound to the neck in Borough Market. Dr Philip Marsden, from St Thomas' Hospital, carried out the post-mortem examination.

Zelenak's mother and stepfather, Julie and Mark Wallace, flew over from Australia for the coroner's hearing.
