Nigel Farage to speak at a far-right rally in Germany

Farage is set to discuss the EU and Brexit at a rally in Berlin hosted by far-right party Alternative für Deutschland.

LONDON — Nigel Farage will today make a speech at a rally held in Berlin by German far-right party Alternative für Deutschland.

AfD, one of Europe's most prominent far-right political parties, is aiming to have representatives elected to the German parliament for first time in its history when elections take place later this month. Farage was so impressed with the party's campaign that he "accepted without hesitation," von Storch said in a Facebook post.

Van Storch, a granddaughter of Adolf Hitler's finance minister Lutz von Krosigk, is a member of Farage's European Parliament grouping, Europe of Freedom and Democracy. She previously belonged to one of the Parliament's larger groupings, European Conservatives and Reformists Group, but was kicked out for suggesting European border controls ought to use firearms to deter illegal immigrants from entering the continent.

A counter-rally is set to take place outside the Spandau Citadel in west Berlin while Farage addresses attendees, the Guardian reports.

Farage's appearance in Berlin will not be the first time the leading Brexiteer has intervened in the politics of other states. In the run-up to last year's US presidential election, the former UKIP leader spoke alongside President Trump at a rally in Jackson, Mississippi, where he declared "I wouldn't vote for Hilary Clinton if you paid me."

He also did a sit-down interview with France's leading far-right political figure, Marine Le Pen, for LBC radio during her campaign to be elected the country's next President.

Farage and AdF hold similar views on the role of the EU in European politics. The latter has called on Germany to told a British-style referendum on EU membership and says Germany should walk away from the bloc unless it is returned to being a "federation of sovereign states."
