Firefighters break into Ghanaian footballer's house after he forgot to turn off stove before match
While he sat hoping to come on, with his family watching in Gelsenkirchen, Tekpetey's pot was still cooking. It triggered a fire alarm as smoke poured from the flat.
The 20-year-old right winger, who is back at Schalke 04 after a loan spell in Austria, was an unused replacement for Saturday's 2-1 home win against Hoffenheim.
Tekpetey sat hoping to come play as his family was watching in Gelsenkirchen. Little did he know that his pot was still cooking.
The smoking pot triggered a fire alarm from the flat. According to German daily Bild, firefighters were called to the scene by the player's neighbours.
The incident happened at 10 p.m. (2100 GMT) local time on Saturday, no one was injured and Tekpetey arrived home half an hour after the drama.
