Miami falls apart in Pittsburgh, losing their undefeated season and shaking up the college football playoff picture

The U's undefeated run collapsed in Pittsburgh on Friday.

  • The Miami Hurricanes' perfect season was spoiled on Friday with a shocking 24-14 loss to Pittsburgh.
  • With the loss, the Hurricanes likely lose control of their own destiny in the college football playoff picture, and will need a huge win over Clemson in order to have a shot at making the top four.
  • Even with a win, Miami might still find themselves on the outside looking in, depending on how the SEC shakes out.

The Miami Hurricanes were upset by the Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday, ruining The U's perfect season and upsetting the college football playoff picture once again.

The Hurricanes offense never got going, and Pittsburgh jumped out to a lead and never looked back, eventually winning the game 24--14.

The loss completely changes the college football playoff picture, with tons of action left this rivalry weekend. First and foremost, it puts the Hurricanes playoff hopes in grave doubt. Coming into the week ranked second in the country, Miami will drop out of the top four spots should the teams around them be able to hold serve.

While Miami will have a shot at redemption in the ACC title game against Clemson, it will be their toughest game of the season yet, and they would likely need to pull off a statement win in order to find their way back into the good graces of the voting committee.

The loss could also come as a nightmare to the ACC in general. Should Miami beat Clemson is a close game where neither team looks their best, there's a chance that both teams find themselves outside of the playoff picture, should Wisconsin and Oklahoma both win out and the SEC produce two teams deemed more deserving of a bid — a scenario that could very likely occur should Alabama finish the season with just one loss and Georgia or Auburn take the SEC title.

There's still tons of football left to be played, with a busy rivalry week schedule looming on Saturday and a set of conference championships next weekend set to be potential play-in games in many cases, but with their shocking loss to Pittsburgh, the Hurricanes have given up control of their own destiny.

But with plenty of more potential upsets left on the schedule, there's still no telling where things will stand in teh playoff picture come Monday.
