Africa is a continent with an obsessive love of sports with football, boxing and athletics the most popular on the continent yet other sports considered as niche seem to be finding a new lifestream on the continent.

Business Insider SSA passes the rule on a few Africans who are trying to break through in these sports.

Akwasi Frimpong

The Dutch born Ghanaian is pursuing a dream of representing Ghana in the bobsled and skeleton event at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Frimpong transitioned from being a sprinter to a winter sports athlete. He is also helping to develop awareness for the sport, setting up a Bobsled and Skeleton Federation of Ghana.

Gift Ngoepe

The South African is a professional baseball player with the Pittsburg Pirates, a team he joined aged 18. It would take him nine years to make a professional debut.Now 27, Ngoepe is enjoying the experience of being one of the continent's first professional baseball player.

Brolin Mawejje

If his dream comes true we might just see the first black African snowboarder at an Olympics. The Ugandan was adopted by an American family at the age of 14 and got hooked after watching his brothers fly on the slopes of Denver. Mawejje has already made history as the first black snowboarder at the World University Games.

Seun Adigub, Akuoma Omeoga, and Ngozi Onwumere

This Texas based trio of former sprinters is also vested in qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics.Team leader, Adigun sees the potential feat as a win for people across the globe as it will “represent monumental international advancements in social, athletic, and economic statuses.” They are currently running a GoFundMe campaign to pay for their dreams.

Kofi Sarkodie -Mensah

His real name might be unfamiliar but Kofi Kingston is certainly a world famous one.Africa's foremost professional artiste in the World Wrestling Entertainment(WWE) was born in Ghana and not Jamaica as his nom de guerre proclaims. He continues to push barriers and is one of the best-paid entertainers on the circuit.
