Mitt Romney wore a tux he bought on Amazon to the Met Gala — and it embarrassed his wife (AMZN)

Mitt Romney, who went to the Met Gala in a Brioni tuxedo, told The New York Times he bought it on Amazon with a "deep discount" — to the embarrassment of his wife, who tried to prevent him from revealing that information.

It seems Mitt Romney loves the convenience of Amazon.

The former governor of Massachusetts on Monday attended this year's Met Gala, which supports the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. This year's theme was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination."

Romney was wearing a Brioni tuxedo, size 40 long, he told The New York Times at the event.

It wasn't just any tuxedo, though — he boasted that he found it on Amazon at a discount.

Amazon is known more for its ability to quickly ship diapers and paper towels to customers than for dressing a guest at the most important fashion event of the year. Though Amazon is trying to be perceived as more fashionable, it seems it hasn't quite yet moved the needle for the most fashion-conscious.

One of those is most likely Romney's wife, Ann, who tried to interrupt her husband from telling the Times reporter about his incredible find online.

According to The Times, she yelled "Don't you dare!" as her husband was speaking about his tuxedo.

It's unclear which piece of information Ann Romney didn't want shared: that the tuxedo was steeply discounted, or that it came in a box with Amazon's smiley-face arrow on the side.

Ann Romney's desire not to have either piece of information shared publicly is both understandable and relatable — but her embarrassment didn't stop there. Mitt Romney indicated he hadn't been aware of the Met Gala before his friend Stephen Schwarzman, one of the honorary chairmen of this year's event, invited him.

"Ann said, 'Are you kidding?'" Romney told The Times.
