Senchi Consensus has not been abandoned- Pres Mahama

John Dramani Mahama addressed the longstanding concern saying that the recommendations of the Senchi Consensus has not been abandoned.

President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani  Mahama, has responded to critics who say the recommendations from an Economic Forum which was held in 2014 at  Senchi had been abandoned.

The Economic Forum organized by the Mahama led administration, brought together dozens of economists from both political divides to deliberate on the way forward for the country's economy.

Critics, however say, a year on, government has left the  recommendations of the economic forum to gather dust as it is yet to implement any of them.

In the launch of the maiden edition of the president's special initiative to account to the people of Ghana on the performance of his government thus far, president John Dramani Mahama addressed the longstanding concern, saying, the recommendations of the Senchi Consensus has not been abandoned.

" The recommendations of the Senchi Consensus has not been abandoned" he said.

"They have formed an integral part of the of our agreement with the IMF programme. The recommendations from Senchi are what we are currently carrying out under the IMF programme. So you see we have not abandoned the recommendations" he further revealed in his address.

This point was earlier made by the Minister of Finance, Seth Tekper when he sought to explain that Ghana's current $920 million IMF programme does not impose any conditionalities on the country, instead the IMF lends policy credibility to Ghana's own home grown strategies to help turn the country's current economic challenges around.

According to the president, these strategies are established on some of the recommendations of the National Economic Forum in Senchi.

In his address to the gathering at the maiden edition of his "Accounting To The People Program", held Tuesday night, president Mahama touched on relevant sectors of governance; from education, health to the economy.
