Tech giant confirms that it is indeed making an Android-powered smartphone

The device is also expected to carry an 18-megapixel camera with fast focus, OIS, and 4k video capabilities

Over the past few weeks, there has been several reports on BlackBerry’s upcoming Android-operated smartphone, and BlackBerry CEO, John Chen has officially confirmed the Canadian company is indeed making an Android powered device with a slide-out keyboard.

Chen says the phone will not be called the rumored ‘BlackBerry Venice’ moniker. The new device will be known instead as the ‘BlackBerry Priv’. In his words, ”Today, I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry’s heritage and core mission of protecting our customers’ privacy. Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform.”

According to a report by TechSuplex, Chen also confirmed that the company would continue to develop and enhance its BlackBerry 10 operating system in addition to confirmed that the company plans to release updates focused on security and privacy enhancements, with the first coming in March 2016.

In conclusion, the BlackBerry CEO stated that the company would be releasing official details on the new device “in the coming weeks.”

Be that as it may, we already know that the device will feature a 5.4-inch, double-curved, 1440x2560, 537ppi display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM power, and 32GB expandable storage.

The device is also expected to carry an 18-megapixel camera with fast focus, OIS, and 4k video capabilities, while the front-facing camera should be a 5-megapixel shooter.

Reports reveal that the device is most likely to launch sometime in November and although there is no information regarding the pricing of the device, it is expected to in the premium range.
