According to management, the retrenchment exercise is necessary to keep the company running, as they cannot continue to pay the salaries of the workers.

Ghanaian cement manufacturer, Pozzolana Cement is considering laying off a section of its workers due to the ensuing erratic supply of power in the country.

Meanwhile, government has blamed the power situation on Nigeria’s inability to supply crude oil to Ghana.John Jinapor, Deputy Power Minister, assured Ghanaians that Ghana has not returned to the protracted energy crisis it stepped out of in January, 2016.

A cross-section of the public believe that the country has been plunged into an energy crisis once again, after Nigeria cut fuel supply to Ghana.

However, Deputy Power Minister, John Jinapor maintains that the country is not back into energy crisis.

“It will be an exaggeration to say we have been plunged into another energy crisis. The prolonged power outage experienced during the weekend was due to a challenge with our power plant in Aboadze, a mechanical fault”, he said.

Mr. Jinapor revealed that some plants are still down, causing blackouts in certain communities.
