The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) says it will visit the Floating Production Storage and Offloading Vessel (FPSO- Kwame Nkrumah) before close of week April 22, to ascertain developments on the rig for itself.

This comes after a schedule 2-week mandatory maintenance work was extended to 5 weeks ultimately impacting power generation for the country.
Some Energy analysts are worried the country might soon start shedding load if developments on the FPSO are not addressed quickly.
Technical Investigation conducted on the state of the turret bearing on the FPSO revealed it had been damaged with the Minister of Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, describing it as extensive.
Despite the challenges in power generation, the PURC has announced there will be no increase in the existing tariffs following a review of electricity and water tariffs for the first quarter of 2016.
According to the External Affairs Manager of PURC Nana Yaa Gyantuah, ’we will be visiting the FPSO to ascertain for ourselves what is happening. We cannot rely on what the media reports’.

Using the Automatic Adjustment formula, the PURC says it arrived at the decision considering the movements in the variables that underpin the formula including the exchange rate, inflation, fuel mix, generation mix among others.
The PURC undertook a major tariff adjustment in December last year , increasing electricity and water tariffs by 59.2% and 67.2% respectively.
The commission says it is currently undertaking a post tariff monitoring program to guarantee improved services for consumers.
The PURC has also revealed it has put in motion the process to penalise the Electricity Company of Ghana following rampant failure of some prepayment meters of consumers.

According to the commission this comes after they started their post tariff monitoring program to investigate complaints by consumers.
The PURC says the ECG has breached rule 13 and 14 of the electricity supply and distribution (standards of performance )regulations 2008(LI 1935).
