NPP MP against ‘outmoded’ mandatory tow levy
The Member of Parliament (MP) of Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong said the general public must rise against the tow levy and ensure it is not implemented.

Speaking on Adom TV the MP said he dislikes the towing levy government wants to impose on the citizens in the country.
“Seriously, I hate this towing levy that government wants to impose on innocent citizens. I am totally against it. How can you tell me to go buy my vehicle and when it breaks down, instead of calling for it to be checked by the insurance company, you expect me to go get it towed with a levy. What kind of useless thinking is this?” he asked.

Agyapong said in his opinion the existing road safety laws must be enforced which will subsequently lead to much safer roads in the country.
He stressed that it was high time the state accepted responsibility for failing to apply the needed resources in dealing with the actual causes of road accidents.
He called on Ghanaians to oppose the yet-to-be imposed levy as well as what he describes as other lackadaisical solutions in solving problems in this country.

The towing levy, which was supposed to commence in June, has received widespread criticism from commercial drivers and the public.

The programme will be executed by Road Safety Management Limited (RSML), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies owned by business mogul, Joseph Siaw Agyapong.
Government yet to decide on levy
The Transport Ministry issued a statement saying the cabinet is yet to take a decision on the towing levy.
“No decision has been taken yet on the commencement of the towing services,” the sector Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said.
