The suspended headmaster of Saint Augustine’s College, Joseph Connel, has been reinstated by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The decision to suspend Connel was heavily criticised especially by the St. Augustine’s Past Students Union (APSU), who called for his reinstatement.

In a letter to GES, dated December 28, 2016, the president of APSU, Dr Ernest Anthony Osei, has expressed his appreciation to the education management body for the decision to reverse Connel’s suspension.

Dr Osei writes.

While the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service have been criticised for overly interfering with the running of public secondary schools, it says the move to police the collection of fees is to ensure that headteachers do not overbill parents and continue to price of public education is within the means of many ordinary Ghanaians.
