KNUST student nabbed for robbery

The police in Kumasi have arrested and detained a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) together with a musician friend, over alleged robbery of a Briton.

The student, Reynold Ayim, and Muhammed Ali, alias “Rasta”, reportedly attacked the victim at knife point and seized his cash in both local and foreign currency - GH¢680 and £100, iPhone and ATM Card.

The incident happened on last Saturday, October 31, at about 1000 hours.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Simon Denteh, the Asokwa District Crime Officer, who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said Edward Jones, arrived in Ghana for a visit on October 28, and was staying with a friend, also a foreigner, at the Kyirapatre Estate in Kumasi.

The two foreign nationals were taking a stroll, when they were suddenly attacked and robbed by the suspects.

The Crime Officer said Ayim and Ali were arrested at their Asafo hideout barely 24 hours after the crime, and that they acted on a tip off.

He said the pair would be put before court as soon as the police finished with their investigation.
