We will not welcome negotiations – UTAG

UTAG has declared an indefinite industrial action in protest against the non-payment of their 2014/2015 Book and Research allowance.

The president of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Dr. Samuel Bekoe has said that the union will not welcome negotiations but will call off their strike action should the full arrears be paid.

“Throughout the year, we have sent several letters reminding government as regards the payment. On two different occasions, the minister of education and minister of employment and labour relations verbally acknowledged the fact that they owe us and they were going to pay," he told Univers News.

Adding: "We asked them to give us specific time and definite timelines which they were reluctant in giving because they claimed they couldn’t promise us that… this is not even about negotiations. It is about you owing us. Pay us so that when we see our money, then we can start making preparations for the academic year."

UTAG has declared an indefinite industrial action in protest against the non-payment of their 2014/2015 Book and Research allowance. According to the association, they have withdrawn all teaching services till government pays the full arrears.
