Students who wrote this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination will from next week be placed into the senior high schools across the country, authorities of the Computerised School Selection Placement System (CSSPS) has revealed.

Consequently, all the candidates who passed the exams, can from next weekend check the school they have been posted to.

The Systems Administrator of the CSSPS, Kwasi Anokye explained that the delays in placing the students has been the cause of WAEC, which has delayed in submitting to it the raw scores needed for the placement exercise.

“There were some outstanding [results of] students that WAEC was working on. As I talk to you now, there are some of them that have been released to the System and to our office,” he said on TV3.

The West African Examination Council in August released the results of 268,812 candidates who sat for the May/June exams.  The results of 6,812 were withheld on suspicion of exams malpractice. WAEC said it was investigating the results of those candidates, and will be released after the said investigation.

Speaking on the latest development on the matter, Mr. Anokye said they have began receiving the raw data from WAEC, pointing out that they have not yet received 100 per cent raw data.

“We are giving ourselves at least this weekend, so next week, whatever data we have we are going to release the selected students.

He said the selection and placement process is not cumbersome, saying “It’s a very short process. If we should have gotten all the data today, by tomorrow, the report would have been out”.

Very soon we are going to start with our placement and by next weekend parents will be able to test to know the school their wards have been posted.

He said the delay would not affect the efficiency of the system of selection as some have claimed, saying “it will not be a matter of we are in a hurry or fast-track anything. The same process; the number of hours we use for theselection and placement is going to be same thing that we are going to do this year.”

He indicated that the placement would be in batches.  “This is so because we will have certain students whose raw marks will not even be able to let them be in the four schools that they themselves have chosen,” he said.

Such students, Mr. Anokye said, would be placed later when further vacancies are created in the schools they chose.

That notwithstanding, he said, all the candidates would be placed before the students report to their various schools for academic work to begin.

Meanwhile, public and private senior high schools as well as technical institutes declared a total of 427,950 vacancies in September. More schools were yet to declare their full vacancies as at the time.
