Government’s policy of converting polytechnics into technical universities took off in September 2016 and it was to help reposition them as strategic institutions for the training of highly-skilled human resource to drive the nation’s socio-economic development.

Speaking on the non-payment of book and research allowances due polytechnic teachers, he said government must expedite action on the payment of their book and research allowances to forestall interruptions in the academic calendar.

"If such payment keeps delaying, then we are unable to conduct the relevant research we have able to gather the necessary tools and make teaching and learning that we opt to teach in a manner that will produce the quality human resource requirement of this country. Lecturers are worried that very often we have to get into tackles with government which has become a perennial affair since 2012 and 2013 academic year that we would have to embark on strike actions before accepted and that is bad," he added.
