Three students busted for causing commotion at entertainment programme

About 500 students allegedly destroyed property worth millions of cedis belonging to the institution and an event manager.

They are Dasmani Alhassan-Daugu and Enock Gah, both Level 100 students, and Ransford Brobbey, a Level 300 student.

The three are said to be part of about 500 students who allegedly destroyed property worth millions of cedis belonging to the institution and an event manager.

One of the suspects, Brobbey was, however, granted bail upon a request by his father, who claimed that his son was a sickler who could not stand the heat in the police cell.

The Winneba District Police Commander, Superintendent Godfrey Tetteh Adjirakor, told the Daily Graphic that the incident took place during an entertainment programme at the entertainment forecourt of the Professor Anamuah-Mensah Conference Hall in the university.

He said during the programme, the students got angry because one of the main artistes invited to perform spent less time on stage than expected.

“Infuriated by the act, some of the students are said to have approached the organisers of the programme. Not satisfied with their explanation, the students began to cause confusion and in the process damaged the equipment belonging to the organisers,” he said.

Mr Adjirakor said some of the organisers fled the scene to avoid being attacked.

The students subsequently diverted their anger on school property and destroyed chairs in the conference room.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
