In spite of their failure to emerge eventual winners of the 2016 edition of the tournament Nifa Secondary School, KNUST Senior High School and others brought down “big” schools like Achimota School, Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School and St. Peter’s Senior High School to their knees.

Social media was effective in this year’s edition

The excitement of this year’s edition can be alluded to the social media awareness and hype that came with the competition. Most people have very fond memories of the NSMQ. The nostalgia was renewed for most people who found the experience quite entertaining and educative, the idea of people seeing their high schools compete in the very dreaded Maths and Science subjects was also an alluring factor. After a long hiatus and the death of the former host, Prof Marian Ewurama Addy, the NSMQ returned to an even higher number of viewers who wanted to see their alma mater raise their schools flag higher.

A higher number of schools are now participating in the competition

Since 2014, the number of participating schools has increased from 66 schools to a whopping 135. And with a larger number of schools drawn from the various regions and districts in Ghana will surely come a higher interest and even a greater number of viewership.

Many people have actually commended the move to increase the number of schools participating in the competition and reckoned that this move had actually given the competition a very nationalistic outlook.

After a keenly contested finals, Adisadel College emerged winners at the 2016 National Science and Maths (NSMQ) quiz.
