Abeiku Sagoe details why he wants to contest presidency

According to Mr Sagoe, the guild is faced with a number of challenges which seem to have hindered its progress. He believes he has what it takes to turn around the fortunes of the guild.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, the actor said if there were proper welfare systems, actors would not come public to ask for financial support.

“[I am bringing on board] unity of the guild. There are divisions on many grounds, a lot of flimsy things. We need a unifying figure and I believe I am the one. We don’t have an effective welfare system. We need to build a proper welfare system to care for members. I have a very good strategy for that,” he said.

“During last two year’s elections, I offered to go for General Secretary because I thought our constitution made the general secretary become like the Chief Executive Officer of the guild so I would be able to organise the guild properly. I contested with Ziggy and he won. I feel with the current picture of the executive, we need someone to lead the guild… The guild needs a good leadership, somebody who knows the terrain, somebody with experience, somebody who has been with the guild all these years and I think I possess all these three qualities,” he added.

The guild has over the years come under a lot of criticisms from stakeholders who have observed that it has lost its relevance.

Currently, three executive positions are vacant. The guild has not been able to organise an election after the demise of its president, Rev Eddie Coffie and Welfare Officer, Solomon Sampah. Vivian Achor who is the vice president has travelled outside the country for more than a year without notifying the guild.

Reports suggest that her position was declared vacant at an emergency meeting on Monday. General Secretary, Ziggy Netteyson has hinted the guild will conduct elections after the burial of Solomon Sampah.

The final funeral rites is slated for April 30.
