Rapper gives hint of his political affiliation

“I am more inclined towards CPP. My fashion sense and speech prove my belief in self-reliance,” says Okyeame Kwame.

The 40-year-old rapper made this revelation today, July 20, on Accra-based Hitz FM during an interview with KMJ.

Though he refused to be specific about his political affiliation, he maintained that his ideologies concur with that of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founder of CPP, thus, he would choose the party over any other political party in Ghana.

“I am more inclined towards CPP. My fashion sense and speech prove my belief in self-reliance,” he said.

He said we need to be creative to develop our country. “No matter where we come from or what political party we belong to, we need to be creative to develop our country,” Okyeame said. He added, “We don’t need whites to come for our gold and oil and give us a little percentage to develop our country.”

Touching on whether he would compose a campaign song for CPP for the November polls, he said no.

He finally said he supports his colleague musicians who have joined the political arena. Citing ‘Self-Reference Criteria’ as his reasons, he said there’s nothing wrong with colleagues like Kwabena Kwabena joining the NPP.

“One issue that worries Africans is a theology called ‘Self-Reference Criteria’. We mostly judge people by our standards which are wrong. I am not bothered by Kwabena Kwabena’s decision to joining any political party. He has responsibilities to deal with so if joining a political party that will support him financially, why not?” Okyeame Kwame said.

Presidential candidate to lead the Convention People’s Party (CPP) into the November polls is Ivor Greenstreet.
