Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer, Appiah Dankwah, popularly known as Appietus, has said that he will sue the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) if the upcoming elections are not held.

Appietus' threat came after reports by Flex Newspaper that “MUSIGA needs money for elections: Administrator Confirms”.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Appietus who was the first to pick up a nomination form to contest the presidency of MUSIGA questioned why the union would take GHc3,000 from candidates as filing fee knowing too well that there was no money to run the election.

“So what are they trying to tell me, I mean they are not ready to do an election but they are ready to take money for nominations or what is going on?... They are doing everything to try and discourage me from pursuing the course but it’s funny. If they want to say that they don’t have money to conduct the elections, I will sue them. They shouldn’t even try it, they should use some other strategy,” he said.

Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, Director of Special Projects and Communications of MUSIGA admitting that the union is faced with financial challenges has assured that, the election will come off as scheduled.

“I’m 100% confident that come October we are going to have one of the most successful congresses the union has ever witnessed,” he stated.

About 150 delegates will converge at the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua on October 29, 2015 to elect executives who will steer the affairs of the union.
