Chief Executive Officer of Slip Music, Mark Okraku-Mantey has said that the Ghana Movie Awards night is boring.

According to him, organisers fail to engage experts in the planning of the event.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Thursday, Okraku-Mantey questioned why organisers would call for entries in November when the event is slated for December. He believes that alone suggests the organisers do not review the movies as expected because of limited time.

“Ghana Music Awards board sits in January, February, March; April is execution. Now Ghana Movie Awards calls for entries in November and execute in December. How? Look at the length of a movie… No wonder on the night you see the show dragging. It’s boring because you don’t have experts. The show starts, you’re sleeping because there is no plan. The fact that you’ve improved on a previous wack event doesn’t mean what you have now is good. Two-man show doesn’t work,” he told host, KJM.

Early November, organisers officially called for entries for consideration with November 20 being the deadline for submission.

The 5th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards is scheduled to take place on 30th December, 2015 at the Accra International Conference Centre but some movie producers have raised concerns about the scheme. They have lamented that the event seem to be Accra-biased, an allegation organisers have denied.

The Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) and the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) have over the years complained about the organisation of the event.

FIPAG in 2014 ordered its members across the country to stay away from the Ghana Movie Awards or face the wrath of the association.

“FIPAG is not boycotting the Ghana Movie Awards; we are dissociating ourselves from it. In the past, we endorsed it but now we would be organizing our own awards and we have asked our members not to submit works for the Ghana Movie Awards,” Asare Hackman told NEWS-ONE.

GAG has also argued that Fred Nuamah, founder of the scheme, has on a number of occasions turned deaf ears to their suggestions, a reason for which they have not been part of the awards scheme from day one.

Ghana Movie Awards according to organisers, seek to recognise excellence in the Ghanaian film industry.
