'I love Dumsor' - Bukom Banku

The enigmatic boxer has strangely confessed affection for the frustrating power situation in Ghana famously codenamed 'dumsor'

Braimah Kamoko AKA Bukom Banku is in the news again, this time not in the boxing ring though.

Banku of course has not fought for exactly one year now since comprehensively beating rival, Ayitey Powers on may 15, 2014 but that has not stopped him from making the headlines.

Kamoko has professed his love for the hazardous electricity situation in this country, the phenomenon where power is taken out at set times almost every day in communities across the country.

So bad is the situation that a code name, 'Dumsor' has even been coined to give it a perfect description.

In fact, Dumsor has even found it's way into Wikipedia, the online platform specialised in information on famous people, names and places.

"Dumsor(or more appropriately ) is a popular Ghanaian term used to describe persistent, irregular and unpredictable electric power outages," the Wikipedia description says.

"The term is derived from two separate words from the Asante Twi dialect of the Akan language (a language spoken widely in Ghana), dum (to turn off or quench) and  (to turn on or to make light), so the term roughly translates as "on-and-off"," it further explained.

So bad is the situation that many corporate bodies have laid off so many employees even prompting Ghanaian celebrities led by Yvonne Nelson, Van Vicker and others to stage a protest march aimed at 'Dumsor must stop' in Accra on Saturday.

But not for Bukom Banku, the unbeaten boxer who has never hidden his affiliations to the ruling NDC party after posing for this photograph with the billboard, 'I love Dumsor' on a car since confirmed to be his own.
