The National Association of Graduate Teachers and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers have called off their intended strike action concerning some unresolved labour issues.

This follows an agreement reached on Wednesday between the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the representatives of the various teacher unions for their issues to be addressed.

The various teacher unions last week served notice of a strike on Thursday as they agitate over unpaid allowances.They argue that government has consistently demonstrated bad faith in addressing their grievances.
However, addressing a news conference on wednesday, Chief Executive Officer of the FWSC Mr George Smith Graham, said the agreement reached by the teacher unions would be fulfilled.He said the various teacher unions have submitted their documents to the Commission with regards to the working condition of the teachers.He added a team involving the management of the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations would soon engage the teacher unions to work on their conditions of service.Mr. Graham noted that with teachers who have not been validated, a release would be sent to the various unions across the country to submit names of the invalidated data to the headquarters of the Ghana Education Service by end of October 23, for redress.President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Mr Ernest Opoku, commended the FWSC for urgently addressing their concerns and called for a continuous dialogue to prevent the future occurrence of threats from the teacher unions.

He said the unions would not allow their members to present fraudulent documents and warned against such acts.
