Minister applauds pregnant candidate

The Deputy Minister for Health, Tina Mensah, has praised a pregnant student who is sitting for the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at New Gbawe Experimental School in the Greater Accra Region.

It is this light that the Deputy Minister for Health, Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah, has praised a pregnant student who is sitting for the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at New Gbawe Experimental School in the Greater Accra Region.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija-Gbawe Constituency went to some schools in her area to encourage the students at the beginning of their exams.

When she saw the six-month-old pregnant Janet Opokua, she told her she was happy the student has been bold to write the exams.

“I am not happy that you are pregnant because our society abhors premarital sex among young boys and girls however my joy lies in the fact that you have not given up on yourself.”

According to Daily Guide newspaper, Janet Opokua said she has adequately prepared for the examinations which begin on Monday, June 5, 2017.

This warmed the MP’s heart causing her to embrace her. Tina Mensah urged her to ensure she scores good grades in order to qualify for Senior High School.

She reminded them that the government’s Free SHS Programme begins with them and urged them to take advantage of it.

Tina Mensah distributed 1500 Mathematical Sets and pens to BECE candidates in 29 public schools within her constituency (Weija-Gbawe).
