Student on hunger strike for not getting a school gets help from GES

The Ghana Education Service has said that she could still be absorbed by the system.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has indicated that the Junior High School graduate who is on a hunger strike over her inability to secure admission into Senior High School could be enrolled this year.

Rachael Achia completed her basic education in 2016 and was placed at the Ghana Senior High School.

However, she could not raise the needed fees to enroll due to the demise of her father.

“When I completed school last year I lost my father and I was unable to enrol at Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua and my Mother asked me to stay at home until this year for free SHS,” she told Accra-based Starr FM.

Her hopes to enroll this year were also dashed as she was not placed by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System.

She believes there is no more hope for her to go back to school.

“I feel all hope is lost because I cannot go back and write after getting aggregate 9.”

But the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service Rev. Jonathan Bettey, said she could be absorbed by the sytem.

“…She must come to the head office at the Ghana Education Service (GES) and prove what she is saying and let’s see how best the issue can be addressed,” Mr. Bettey said.
