Ahanta West wins W/R Independence celebration quiz championship

The champions made away with a trophy, certificates of honour for contestants, school bags, exercise books and plagues

The champions Abura Real Estate D/A topped the competition with 21 points after three rounds of questions on both Pre and Post Independence, Current Affairs, Science, Mathematics, ICT etc.  Christ Leading Preparatory School from Essiama in the Ellembele District (host) came second with 19 points with the 2015 winners Morning Star Preparatory School from Axim in the Nzema East Municipality placing third with 16 points as well as Nzema-Manle Preparatory School from Half Assini in the Jomoro District and Supomu Dunkwa Methodist JHS from Shama placing fourth and fifth respectively.

The champions made away with a trophy, certificates of honour for contestants, school bags, exercise books and plagues whiles the remaining schools also took away exercise books, school bags, certificates and plagues respectively.

The Member of Parliament for Ellembele Constituency Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, headline sponsor of the event in his message read on his behalf reiterated his continues commitment and support towards education within and outside the western region.

He encouraged students to take their studies seriously adding that his office is putting in place measures that would seek to organise mock examinations for the BECE finalists in his constituency aimed at improving on their results.

According to him, as a result of the intervention, the Ellembele District scored 73 per cent in the 2013 BECE examination, which rose to 74 per cent in 2014, and dramatically increased to 92 per cent in 2015, placing the District third in the Western Region and assured that his office will continue to liaise with the various stakeholders responsible for the educational sector in his area to continue with the exercise.

The Western Regional Director whose message was read on his behalf by Mr. Daniel Donkor from the GES regional directorate commended the organisers for organising such an event aimed at bringing together schools at the basic level to compete and honour the Independence celebration with a quiz competition.

He called on the organisers to consider bringing on board more districts in subsequent events and appealed to organisations to support the worthy course of the organisers to enable them cover the region.  On his part, the chairman for the occasion Rev D. Y Amaning advised the students to devote their time to read widely to enable them acquire more knowledge especially with the history of Ghana and desist from wasting their time on watching football matches and movies.

Rev Amaning who doubles as the headmaster of Essiama Secondary Technical School called on the various agencies responsible for the sector to support education in the area as well as urged the organisers to continue with their good works towards promoting education in the region.

The Executive Director of Programmes and Communications of Nzema Events Management Ltd, organizers of the event and organisers of the annual Osagyefo Cup competition, Koame Adonle Meiza expressed appreciation to sponsors of this year's event such as Tigo Ghana Limted for supporting the event with twenty-six (26) school bags and exercise books, the Member of Parliament for Ellembele Constituency Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Jomoro and Ahanta West District Assemblies for their support towards a successful event.

He encouraged the students to have a Positive Mental Attitude towards their education and life in general by letting God be their guide, coupled with hard work and determination.

The Queen mother of Essiama Nana Etinsinli Amushia advised the students to remain focus and take their studies seriously and eschew from all forms of nefarious activities that will hamper their future ambitions.

The event which was was partnered by Saigha Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in the Jomoro District with its focus on promoting education, health, tourism and gender empowerment was well attended by representatives of MPs, DCEs/MCEs, District Directors of Education,  Chiefs and opinion leaders, key players in the educational sector
