Meanwhile Dr. Sharubutu was delighted that government has directed the Ministry for Water Resources, Works and Housing to release the parcel of land for the project.

“The multiple development partners (financiers) and philanthropists from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are determined with full commitment to complete the project,” the statement added.

The project has been in the pipeline for more than 10 years, but has stalled as a result of disagreements over ownership of the land.

A decision by the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) in 2006 to offer some 361 acres of land to an Italian company led to a portion of the adjacent land belonging to the Muslim community being taken away.
