Obsolete academic curricula hurting Ghana’s education

President of the Central University College, Professor Kwesi Yankah has attributed the seeming lack of coordination between the job market and the academia to the “strict jacket ideas” in the country’s universities.According to him, the use of obsolete academic curricula is also contributing to the stretching gap between the job market and the academia.“Factors often listed as responsible for the gap between academia and industry include, the mounting of programmes as well as the use of obsolete academic curricula which are not suited for the job market, lack of consultation between industry and academia and over concentration of strict jacket ideas in the academia,” Prof. Yankah stated at an event in Koforidua Tuesday.He said the development has contributed to the apparent disconnect between the national vision of development and the respective academic institutions that are supposed to help develop the strategies.He also bemoaned the spate of unemployment in the country and warned that it could create chaos in the years ahead if nothing is done about it.
