Tragic Stop spreading false news about UG student’s death – Management

The Director of Public Affairs of the University of Ghana, Mrs Stella A. Amoa has asked the public to refrain from making any speculations about the circumstances which led to the death of a Level 400 student of the school, after she fell to her death on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

According to management of the school, "The University is aware of the many speculations currently going on, assigning reasons for the death; and calls on members of the University community and the general public to refrain from making any speculations on the incident and allow investigations to be completed."

The deceased named Jennifer Nyarko, a Consumer Science student fell from her balcony at dawn at Akuafo Annex A room 407 after staying away from lectures for several days and was found by a student who was on her way to pray.

A student at the University of Ghana who spoke to the Citi FM said: "As at now we don’t know what may have caused this. She is now in the hospital. We saw her lying down and bleeding from her head. Such cases involve investigations so we didn’t want to touch her. We could see that the head was broken. We are all waiting to hear from the doctor."

The Legon District Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Emmanuel Ofori Anokye said the police received distress phone calls about the incident around 5:00 a.m., and a team of policemen were dispatched to the scene.

The school in a statement signed by its Director for Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella Amoah said "The University is distraught by the incident, and University officials led by the Vice-Chancellor, have had initial interaction with the parents of the deceased. The University’s Counseling Centre is currently offering counseling services to the deceased’s roommates, immediate family members as well as fellows and employees at Akuafo Hall, Annex A."
