14 students of Tumu SECTECH arrested for assaulting teacher

The students did not take it lightly when the 36-year-old teacher seized mobile phones from four of them after ‘lights out' following an entertainment session.

The students who are on self-recognisance bail, are said to have assaulted the teacher, Mr Issah Ganiyu.

Mr Ganiyu, who was the teacher on duty at the time the students had allegedly assaulted him, had gone round the dormitories to ensure that the students were protected.

The Police Commander for the Sissala East District, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Stephen Abanga, told the Daily Graphic that the teacher during his rounds heard some students talking and it later turned out that they were speaking on phone.

Mr Ganiyu seized four phones from the students, but that did not go down well with the students, who massed up in their numbers to attack him.

ASP Abanga said the teacher was forced to escape from the students. He is now recovering from bodily pains and physical injuries.

The 14 were those identified by the teacher as having attacked him, but some sources believe that the number could be more.

Many have asked for the said students to be dismissed.
