Use 'wee' to fund free SHS - Assembly member

He said the cultivation and sale of 'wee' is of good economic value and it can help the government in funding the flagship 'Free SHS' policy.

Alhaji Yakubu said, "There is a lot of money in the cultivation of wee, and, so, the government must consider legalising its cultivation. We can grow wee to finance free SHS, it is better than going for loans to finance the programme”.

Speaking on Accra FM, Alhaji Yakubu said he thinks the government has to emulate countries that have legalized the sale of indian hemp.

He contends that, "Research has shown that Ghana is the number one cultivator of wee in Africa and third in the whole world, and, so, we cannot pretend that the cultivation is not going on. The point is the government must legalise the cultivation and properly regulate it because other countries have done so and are benefiting from it.”

Free SHS is a flagship policy by the Akufo-Addo led government since he took office in 2017.
