"I don't know if I know what I'm in for. It's going to be a huge challenge for me. It's quite a departure from what I'm used to. But I love a challenge and I think it's going to help me grow as an artist,'' Copeland said.
Adding: "I can carry a tune. We'll see what happens. I'm excited. I'm a Virgo and we're a little bit anal and we're definitely hard workers, so I'm going to put my all into this."
On the Town is a 1944 musical by Leonard Bernstein that grew out of a Jerome Robbins ballet that originally premiered at the American Ballet Theatre. It’s about three sailors who get to visit New York City for a single day, and features the famous song “New York, New York.”
She hopes that her role in On the Town will help her reach a wider audience than the crowd that comes to American Ballet Theatre performances at the Metropolitan Opera.
