My comment at VGMAs not meant to dig Sarkodie

EL giving his acceptance speech after he was announced winner of the Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year category, stated that Omar Sterling of R2bees is a good rapper but could not complete his statement as the crowd murmured.

Rapper, EL

EL, giving his acceptance speech after he was announced winner of the Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year category, stated that Omar Sterling of R2bees is a good rapper but could not complete his statement as the crowd murmured.

Some have said that he made the statement because he has an issue with Sarkodie.

But speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, Saturday, EL said he made those comments because he thought Omar Sterling did well with Hip-pop the year under review. According to him, the comment was to consolidate Omar Sterling.

“It came as a shock to me [when Omar Sterling did not win], so in the heat of the moment, I was really disappointed in myself and I felt I haven’t done enough to merit that recognition and in my mind, my only competition in that category was Omar Sterling because Omar had released ‘Nineteen Ninety’ which my girlfriend at the time was worrying me with… The comment I made on stage was a sort of consolation to who I felt was my competitor… and that’s not to take anything away from the big boss [Sarkodie]” he noted.

Sarkodie’s ‘Hand to Mouth beat Kwaw Kese’s Yakubu, Flowking Stone’s Fire Bon Dem, Omar Sterling’s Nineteen Ninety, Pappy Kojo’s Ay3 Late and EL’s All Black to win Hip-hop Song of the Year while EL beat Pappy Kojo, Omar Sterling, Sarkodie, VVIP and Guru to win the Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year.
