Ghana Actors Guild not vibrant

Speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch on Monday, the actress who has been a member of the guild for years cited information dissemination as a major challenge for the guild.

“To be frank with you, it’s been long since I went for their meetings because no one gives me feedback on their activities. Nobody informs us of any meeting or any activity,” she said.

The actress suggested that executives be active and revive the guild. She however mentioned division in the movie industry for being a causative factor of the lost relevance of the guild.

“For now, there seems to be division in the industry. There is a division between the English and Twi movies. With this kind of attitude, I don’t see any strength in our industry. If we are all to come together as one, I think the guild will be strong,” she noted.

The Ghana Actors Guild has suffered criticisms from some stakeholders who say the guild is not attractive enough.

“I am sorry to say that even though we have a Guild it is not as vibrant as I would have wished it to be, I believe it is not that good,” Kofi Adjorlolo is quoted to have told MzGee on Hitz FM’s Entertainment This Week.

Currently, there are three vacancies at the executive level. The guild lost its National President, Eddie Coffie in October 2015 and Welfare Officer, Solomon Sampah in January 2016 but is yet to hold elections. Although their constitution states that the vice president should act as president in his absence, Vivian Achor who holds the position of vice president has been out of the country for more than a year.

Reports suggest that her position has been declared vacant after an emergency executive meeting on Monday.

General Secretary, Ziggy Netteyson has said the guild will conduct elections after the burial of Solomon Sampah. The final funeral rite is slated for April 30.
