The umbrella body for actors in the country, has over the years come under a lot of criticisms from stakeholders who have observed that the guild has lost its relevance.

Currently, three executive positions are vacant. The guild has not been able to organise an election after the demise of its president, Rev Eddie Coffie and Welfare Officer, Solomon Sampah. Vivian Achor who is the vice president has travelled outside the country for more than a year without notifying the guild.

As preparations are being made to conduct elections after the burial of Solomon Sampah slated for April 30, David Dontoh and Abeiku Sagoe believe they are capable of restoring the integrity of the guild, a reason they would want to run for the presidency.

“I’m going for the president of the Ghana Actors Guild. I have been in this industry my whole life. I left VRA because of art. Therefore, my passion is without dispute,” Abeiku Sagoe said on Joy FM’s Rhythmz A-Z with Mamavi Owusu-Aboagye on Saturday.

“Well, I hope to [run for the presidency]. I’m not better than anyone except that I know certain things I can do to really bring the guild back on its feet,” David Dontoh noted.
