On a greater picture, Muna’s death just throws on some more negativity into a 2015 already charged by violence from the north, and the tension that comes with an election year.

It’s confirmed. Pretty boy actor Muna Obiekwe is dead. Despite attempts by some insensitive moron to confuse honest reports about his manner of passing, the truth has sadly been driven home, and our darling Muna is dead.

Muna’s death is painful to a greater degree. We don’t just feel a casual moment of grief and sadness that we can shrug off with a ‘poor guy’ comment or some impotent declaration of ‘rest in peace’. We feel a deep sense of loss because the person it affects is more than just another celebrity.

Muna’s death packs a greater punch because he represents all of us. Every young man who is striving to make a better living can relate t Muna. Here was a man who had to make a living doing what he loved, striving hard for perfection via acting and intense training.

For a while, his game worked. No Nollywood epic flick would be complete without Muna in character as some romantic prince or regular joe. But with the influx of accents and a new generation of stars who hug the cinemas, he has been relegated to acting in the low-budget movies which reached a nadir when he was involved in a scandal from a movie scene with an offensive amount of nudity.

But he has kept on, pushing beyond expectations, and making the most of his resources.

But now he is gone and what we feel is sadness, deep overwhelming sadness.

On a greater picture, Muna’s death just throws on some more negativity into a 2015 already charged by violence from the north, and the tension that comes with an election year. People are already weighed by the burden of uncertainty that comes with security, and Nigerians can’t wait for all of these to pass away.

We are currently battling with the news of 2000 slain souls in Baga, and the negativity of female suicide bombers attacking Northern Nigeria. That trend has sat ill with many, and concerned citizens have raised voices, with their hearts quaking with sympathy for the plight of the girls.

Simply put, 2015 has been a year of negativity, and Muna’s death has further dampened it.

Celebrities have put out their voices, expressing sympathy for one of their own. Muna’s death gives them all a fresh perspective on the fickle nature of our existence and how all they hold dear can be snatched away from their grasp. All in an instant.

Rest in peace Muna. Your death has brought sorrow not only to our hearts, but has further darkened a 2015 marred by multiple evils.
