Rap star Snoop Dogg was detained by police in Italy after he was found to be carrying $422,000 (€384,000) in cash

The 43-year-old singer, Snoop Dogg, was stopped at an airport in Calabria, southern Italy, following a recent concert. He is scheduled to perform on Sunday at the Kendal Calling Festival in England.

Travellers passing through airports in the European Union must declare sums of cash that are over €10,000.

Snoop Dogg was stopped as he prepared to board a private plane and Italian police seized his cash. According to his lawyer, Andrea Parisi, Snoop will have to pay a fine over the incident.

“We clarified everything from a legal point of view,” Parisi told Reuters.

“The money came from concerts he had performed around Europe. There was no crime; it was just an administrative infraction.”

The rapper was said to have been given half of his money back while the rest was being held by Italian authorities until the amount of the fine was determined.

The airport incident comes barely a week after the Drop It Like It's Hot singer was briefly arrested by police in Sweden on suspicion of using illegal drugs.
