Last night, the biggest of the big celebrities in the world stepped out of their limousines and sauntered on the red carpet of the MET Gala 2015.

Why can Beyoncé, Kim K go nearly naked but Deborah Vanessa must not?
If the same people who dissed Sister Deborah and any other female Ghanaian celeb for showing off her sexuality do not do so to Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, then they need to offer letters of apology.

This morning, it is all the world is talking about- Rihanna's bizarre yellow outfit, Madonna and Katy Perry wearing matching dresses, Miley Cyrus, Zoë Kravitz, Rita Ora, Madonna, Diddy, Cassie, Anna Wintour, Lenny Kravitz, Jessica Alba, Naomi Campbell, Taraji P Henson, Donatella Versace, Jennifer Lopez and others.
Of course no Hollywood A-list event would be complete without the entertainment's first couple Jay Z and Beyonce, and this generation's idols of narcissism and vanity Kanye West and Kim Kardashian-West. Both first ladies of the Hollywood exclusive club wore dresses that had the same theme- borderline nudity, although I doubt that King Bey would have told Kim K over Skype that they should tease their goodies to the world like that. Best buddies they are not.
Their dresses did have similar impact, two of the most desirable women on planet earth in highly revealing dresses standing by their husbands who have ego as big as the city of New York. Some people loved Beyonce's dress, a whole lot more loved Kim Kardashian's- Reality TV 1 Hip Hop Royalty 0.

I have no problem with nudity. Hey, if you've got it flaunt it, it doesn't take any skin off my black back. I don't also see anything wrong in you appreciating nudity. What pisses me off is when you praise nudity in one place, and criticize it in another.
The lovely and talented Deborah Vanessa wore a quite revealing dress at the Channel O Awards last year, and the poor girl almost had her head chopped off. Critics came after her, Twitter 'over sabi' people took shots at her, and 'stylists' hit her hard. Fine I am all for that.
All I want to know is why Deborah Vanessa was slaughtered and Beyonce, Kim K won't be pelted with the same stones. This imbalance has gone on for years. A foreign celeb acts in a certain manner and we as Ghanaians love it, a Ghanaian does it and the person is assaulted with nasty words and comments.

Oh some would say that Deborah Vanessa's outfit was tacky, but if Omotola Jalade dares put on Beyonce's dress she would be slaughtered. "Omotola should know better, she is a mum" they would say. Excuse me, are Beyonce and Kim virgins. "This is Africa, she can't dress anyhow. We are decent people" the hypocrites will shout.

We should stop with the holier than thou attitude. Ghanaians should know this- we are not a morally superior race. We love sex, nudity and all that jazz. Why praise Americans and castigate Ghanaians for doing the same thing. It makes no sense.
Maybe many of us still suffer from colonial mentality- foreign is good, local is bad. Maybe we are still slaves that we believe we are inferior. Whatever it is, it is a shameful act. We should stop patting foreign celebrities with our right hand and slapping our own with our left hand. What is good/bad for one should be good/bad for all.
