Hip Hop star Nelly was arrested on 11 April in Tennessee and charged with felony drug possession
Grammy Award-winning rapper Nelly has been arrested on drugs charges after police stopped the bus in which he was travelling in Tennessee.
The 40-year-old artist’s tour bus was stopped by a Tennessee state trooper Saturday morning when the trooper noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the bus, according to a statement released by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
The stop happened about 9:20 a.m. in Putnam County.
Authorities also found three handguns, including a gold-plated 50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol, a 45-caliber Taurus pistol, and a 500 magnum Smith and Wesson.
It was not clear if anyone in the group was licensed or permitted to carry the weapons. However, a second passenger — 44-year-old Brian Jones of St. Louis — was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun, the statement read. Jones has a felony conviction on his record.
Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes, also is from St. Louis.
He was booked at Putnam County Jail on suspicion of felony possession of drugs, simple possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
He was released on $10,000 bail.
