Ego, a challenge to our comeback - Afriyie

A rather distasteful conversation between the two on Pluzz FM’s flagship program, AM Pluzz on Tuesday led to the two blaming one another for the cause of the breakup.

According to Afriyie, he read in the newspapers that Wutah had split and that was after Kobby started recording songs with artistes they had worked with without his notice. But Kobby recounted that Afriyie, having been advised by some people that he could be a successful solo act decided to part ways.

Although Kobby stated he was ever ready for a reunion, Afriyie said there can be a comeback if they work on their egos.

“If we are to go back to where we ended, it will be another disaster because listening to the two of us now, nothing has changed. The egos are still there so I don’t see this happening now,” Afriyie said.

Kobby replied, “I don’t have any ego problem. If he wants to work on his ego it is cool...”

Wutah split in 2010 and the news of the two reuniting has been back and forth. A recent publication on adomonline.com said the two had decided to put their differences behind them and reunite after six years of breaking up. According to the story, Kobby and Afriyie were expected to officially announce their reunion at the just ended Kwahu Easter celebrations but could not materialise although the long-awaited reunion of the group is finally a reality.

Confirming the news Kobby said “…my management during the Kwahu festive celebration contact Multimedia Group for a juicy gig but my brother refused to come on board; my management had to terminate the contract”.

Afriyie Wutah, on his part said any time he called Kobby so they could work on a song, Kobby told him he was travelling. He believes Kobby is now concerned about the comeback because he failed as a solo artiste.

“If he had succeeded when he went solo, do you think he would come back now asking us to reunite? He is the one who left; I didn’t sack him. You leave your wife and you realise the new one you married is not treating you well, you come back and you expect her to open her arms and welcome you?”Afriyie queried.

“When he left in 2010, it was a disaster… The people who know me will attest to this. I was unemployed because I didn’t have a career. From nowhere my career came to a halt and I had to pick it up from scratch… just when I’m beginning to be relevant on my own as Afriyie in the minds and in the hearts of the people, something like this pops up. No, if this is a game they are playing, I’m sorry it is not going to work,”Afriyie added.
