Disney's new live action 'Cinderella' begins journey on a happy note as it makes a global debut of $132.5M.

Kenneth Branagh's 'Cinderella' takes over the box office as it makes a $132.5M global debut.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James, Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and others, the movie opened in 3,845 in theaters on Friday after its $2.3 million grossing from Thursday night previews.

It’s the sixth-largest March opening and came out just ahead of  Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent last June.

Maleficent is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the point of view of the famous villainies and grossed $758.4 globally.

Cinderella is also Branagh's biggest opening of all time as a director.
