James Bond author apologises for saying actor is ‘too street’ and ‘rough’ to play 007

Current James Bond author, Anthony Horowitz, has apologised for his controversial 'Street' and 'Rough' comment on Idris Elba playing 007.

Idris Elba recently became the first man to be featured on the cover of Maxim magazine.

Anthony Horowitz, who has written a new James Bond book,undefined, has apologised for calling Idris Elba too 'street' and 'rough' for the James Bond Role.

Horowitz came under attack after his comment which he said was not a 'colour issue.'

Horowitz has now apologised, describing the word 'street' and 'rough' as "a poor choice of word".

"I'm really sorry my comments about Idris Elba have caused offence," Horowitz responded in a statement.

"That wasn't my intention. I was asked in my interview if Idris Elba would make a good James Bond. In the article I expressed the opinion that to my mind would be a better choice but I'm a writer not a casting director so what do I know?

"Clumsily, I chose the word 'street' as Elba's gritty portrayal of DCI John Luther was in my mind but I admit it was a poor choice of word. I am mortified to have caused offence."

Elba has long been fans favourite black choice to play James Bond, and also succeed Daniel Craig who is currently filming the forthcoming Bond film undefinedwhich hits theatres November 26, 2015.

In 2014, a undefined revealed the company thought Elba “should be the next Bond”.
