In a series of tweets, actress/directress Juliet Ibrahim has described the award scheme as a 'scam', 'big joke' and 'family awards'.

She further stressed that Idris Elba's "Beats Of No Nation" is unfit for Ghana Movie Awards, adding that some of the categories she was placed were wrong.
