After news broke that Ghanaian highlife–artiste-turned–pastor, Ofori Amponsah is set to release a new highlife song soon, Franklyn Wiafe Agyekum has stated that his artiste will not be singing secular songs.

According to him, Ofori Amponsah was not a secular musician and has never done a secular music before.

“What is secular music? Ofori Amponsah has never done a secular music. Unless of course you are telling me that love songs are secular music. He is back to highlife to continue doing those love songs he used to sing and even do it better. He is back to sing love songs to heal the broken-hearted. There are so many broken-hearted in the house,” he noted on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch.

He told show host, Abrantepa that he had been to Germany with the artiste to record some of the songs and the lyrics have nothing to do with profanity.

“There is no genre of music called gospel. We have branded songs with God’s name in them as such. The rhythm we use is either reggae or highlife. When Ofori Amponsah had the call, he never stopped singing. Even the song he released after that development which some have described as gospel was a highlife song. Some of the songs some people claim are gospel because God’s name is mentioned in them are not gospel. Even the thief prays before he goes to steal. How about that?” Mr. Agyekum quizzed.

He further asked all to be “tactful” about comments directed to his artiste.

Known for hit songs Otoolege, Odwo, Puduo, Sardine, Emmanuella, among others, Ofori Amponsah has been out of the music industry for some years now to pursue full-time ministry. He is currently the Head Pastor of the Holy Ground Sanctuary in Accra.
