Edem

Edem whose real name is Denning Edem Hotor is a Ghanaian recording artiste and entertainer who was born in 1986 with both parents deceased, Edem was born in Dzodze in Volta Region. He is the only son of his parents and has sister. He started his primary and junior high education at the Amazing Love School. He then proceeded to Bishop Herman College for his senior high school education. Edem lost his mum at the age of 13 and his dad at the age of 16. He grew up surrounded by music in his locality and music from around the world ranging from hip hop to dancehall, reggae to hi life.

He took off with his first music group in junior high school. In senior high, he formed a 6-member group called the ‘Ringmasters.’ They performed at the school’s entertainment programs as well as at fun fairs held in other schools. They usually did singing, rapping and dancing. After completion of Senior High School, he proceeded with his quest to build a commercial career with in music for himself; he recorded uncountable songs in the underground with the likes of Nival, Kokromoti, Trigmatic, Vyroz, M.O.B, and Osibo.

In 2006, he released his first radio hit single ‘’Wotome Woshi’’. It gained much popularity in his region and added to his underground reputation as a talent to look out for. It was in the same year that he got together officially with The Last Two Entertainment Group, headed by the hit maker ‘’Hammer of the Last Two.’’

During his career advancement, Edem also made a lot of appearances at live shows, the major of which was at the opening of The John legend Concert organized by Charterhouse and held at The International Conference Center in Accra in 2000. Before his debut, he did a lot of collaborations with other artiste, the major collaboration being with Obrafour for a Tigo Telecommunication Promotion. After spending two years in the studio, he came up with his first single ‘’Bougez’’ which received a lot of airplay from the radio stations across the country. He later came up with his fist album which featured a lot new artiste then and established acts such as Tinny, Sarkodie, Obour, and Trigmatic.

Edem has appeared on major shows like Stars of the Future season 3 finales, Ghana Music Awards (2009) and all major university concerts.

Edem released his first album in 2009 titled Volta Regime, his second in 2011 titled Mass Production and his recent album this year (2015) titled BOOKS & RHYMES.

Edem has won the Best International Act-Africa at 2015 Black Canadian Awards. The ‘Koene’ singer beat other seriously talented acts from Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Ivory Coast. He also swept home three awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2015.Among them was the Album of the Year award for his much talked about BOOKS &RHYMES. He also topped the 2014 4 Syte TV Music Video Awards with three awards.

Edem has done a number of philanthropic works and is fast gaining grounds as one artiste in Ghana with a passion for charity.

He is also the proud father of a four year old daughter and is in a committed relationship preparing for marriage.
