Ghanaian Musicians Are Irresponsible & Disrespectful

Obuor expressed this concern when talking about his challenges as the president of MUSIGA on eTV’s Late Night Celebrity Show which he pointed to be irresponsible musicianship from most musicians in Ghana.

The President of MUSIGA, Obuor has slammed some his fellow musicians for bringing down the music industry by being irresponsible and disrespectful.

“A lot of Ghanaian musicians are irresponsible. They don’t respect contracts, they don’t participate and they don’t unionize”.

“….if you are in an industry for instance, we wana fight payola, we wana fight piracy, and at the same time that we are fighting pira’8cy a lot of musicians are giving their songs out to people for free. At the same time that we wana fight payola a lot of musicians are still paying so it’s irresponsible”, he said.

He however added musicians being irresponsible is the reason the industry is not where it is supposed to be and if they keep up with it, it will not make the industry grow.

“To be a musician there are things if you want to take your career as a serious musician you must do. You must respect contracts. So if a musician does not respect contracts, that person is extremely irresponsible and that will not make the industry grow”, he explained.

He added saying “if I am a corporate entity and I hi;8re your services and we do a contract and you don’t respect it, I will not even work with anybody in the industry again”.

The ‘menwu biom’ singer also said that if there is an agreement that particular musicians should take certain amount for a show, some will still go behind the rule and take whatever amount they please and that is some of the irresponsible attitudes of some musicians today.

He however stated that for the industry to grow, there was the need for sacrifices to be made because if the industry grows it grows with the musicians as well.

“To have an industry grow, there must be some sacrifices….If the industry grow it grows with you because you can have all the money you want but you may not enjoy your industry because every musician is not in the industry just for the money but for the money, the fame and the whole base that goes with the show business so if you get the biz and you don’t get the show, there is no joy”, he stated.
